This converter changes a JPG into a GIF image without any software. It comes in handy when a website, forum, or older program will only take GIF files.
Before you convert, it helps to know how GIF works. A GIF uses a palette of up to 256 colors, while a JPG photo can hold millions of them. So a detailed photo will look a touch flatter as a GIF, and smooth gradients can break into visible bands. For logos, icons, and simple flat graphics, you'll barely notice the difference.
The result is a single still frame. If you were hoping to build an animated GIF out of several pictures, this isn't the tool for that. It turns one image into one static GIF.
Reach for GIF when something specifically asks for it: an older content system, a sticker slot in a chat app, or a simple graphic with flat colors. For photos on a modern site, JPG or WebP will nearly always look sharper and weigh less.
PNG To BMP Converter
Convert a PNG into a standard uncompressed BMP bitmap for free. Runs in your browser and works well with older Windows software.
Some, yes. GIF caps colors at 256, so a photo with rich gradients will look a little flatter. Simple graphics and flat-color images hold up well.
No. This converts a single JPG into a single still GIF. It doesn't combine multiple images into an animation.
For photos, usually not, since GIF often ends up larger. For flat graphics with few colors, a GIF can actually come out smaller.
