WebP describes the same photograph in less space than JPG can, which is the entire point of JPG to WebP. Somewhere around a third comes off a typical picture with nothing you would notice on screen, and on a page carrying twenty images that adds up to a real difference in loading time.
Between a quarter and a half on most photographs. Pictures with large smooth areas do best. A small image that was already squeezed hard has less to give, and occasionally comes out about the same, which the two figures on the row will tell you straight away.
Worth being clear about. Your JPG has already discarded detail and the WebP is built from what survived. It describes that picture more efficiently, it does not repair it. Start from the largest, cleanest JPG you have rather than one that has been through a chat app twice.
Anything leaving the web. Email attachments, files for a print shop, images going into older office software. Plenty of those still cannot read a .webp and will simply report a broken file, so JPG remains the safer thing to hand over.

Yes, and one round is not something you will see. Converting the same photo back and forth repeatedly is what visibly damages it.
Keep them. They are your fallback for anywhere WebP is not accepted, and you cannot rebuild them from the converted copies.
Not for browsers, they all handle WebP now. Only if something else on your setup pulls the image out and hands it to older software.
Some of it travels, and some does not survive the rewrite. If the shooting details matter to you, hang on to the original file.
