JFIF and JPG are the same format. The picture inside a .jfif follows exactly the rules a .jpg follows, so JFIF to JPG is not really a conversion of the image at all. It is a fix for an extension that half the software in the world does not recognise.
A registry setting decides which ending gets attached to JPEG images saved out of a browser, and on a great many machines it has been set to .jfif for years. Nobody chooses it. It arrives on its own, usually in a folder of pictures you saved without thinking about it.
It decodes the picture and writes a fresh JPEG, which costs one more round of compression. On anything straight from a camera that is invisible. It is worth knowing all the same, because renaming a single file by hand achieves the same result without that cost.
This is where converting earns its place. Renaming two files is quicker by hand. Renaming two hundred is not, and the list here takes them all in one pass and gives them back with the right ending on every one.
