Converting AVIF to JPEG is a deliberate step backwards. AVIF beats JPEG on almost every measure, but a great deal of software has never heard of it, and JPEG is the one image file that everything opens. Compatibility is the whole reason to do this.
AVIF describes a picture far more efficiently than JPEG can, so saying the same thing in JPEG needs more room. An image that was 200 KB as an AVIF can land at three or four times that. Both numbers show on the row, so the jump is not a surprise after the fact.
JPEG cannot store it at all. Wherever your AVIF was see through, the JPEG gets white, because something has to fill the space. For a logo meant to sit on a coloured background that matters a lot, and PNG is the target you actually want.
Both formats throw away detail to save space. One conversion is fine and nobody will notice. Converting an AVIF that was itself built from a compressed JPEG, then saving that again, is where texture starts turning mushy. Go back to the cleanest version you still have.

AVIF only arrived in 2019. Software written before that, or not updated since, simply has no decoder for it and reports the file as broken.
