PNG to JPG is the conversion people reach for when a file is too big to send. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which is why it gets so heavy, and JPG throws away the detail your eye was never going to catch. On a photograph that trade is close to free.
A photo saved as PNG commonly runs to several megabytes. The same picture as a JPG often lands near a tenth of that. The difference is not subtle, and it is the whole reason forms and mail servers that rejected the original will take the converted file without a murmur.
JPG has no way to record a see through pixel. Where the PNG was clear, white is filled in, so a logo drawn for a coloured background suddenly sits in a rectangle. Nothing on this page changes that. It is the format itself, and if the transparency matters then PNG is where the file needs to stay.
Screenshots, diagrams, anything with small text or hard edges against flat colour. JPG compression smears those, leaving faint grey halos around lettering, and the file often barely shrinks because PNG was already good at that kind of picture. Photographs gain everything from this conversion. Graphics gain almost nothing.
Photographs shrink hardest
The busier the picture, the more weight JPG compression takes off it.
Accepted by every upload form
JPG is the one image format nothing on the receiving end argues with.
Dimensions untouched
The picture keeps its width and height, only the file gets lighter.

On a photograph, no. Zoom in hard on fine texture and you can find it, but at any normal size the JPG and the PNG look the same.
You can make a PNG from it, but the detail JPG discarded is gone for good and the file simply gets heavy again without getting better.
Convert to WebP instead. It compresses nearly as well as JPG and holds transparency the way PNG does.
Flat colour and sharp text are what PNG is best at, so there was little left for JPG to save. You may even see the file grow.
